The students and I have reviewed school and classroom rules, procedures, and expectations. I would like to take this opportunity to share them with you.
HOMEWORK: Students are to be prepared for class. They should have the homework, any books/notebooks needed and pencils. Homework is expected to be completed daily and handed in on time. There is homework assigned most every day. I expect the homework done neatly. Pencil or blue or black ink may be used. If the work is typed, the class discussed format must be used. Students are expected to use complete sentences with correct capitalization, punctuation and spelling. Rough draft writing assignments may contain errors that will be edited as part of the writing process. Grade checks with me are done periodically to allow students to see exactly how they are doing and to make the appropriate adjustments. Students and parents can check Web2School at anytime.
Every student has an agenda (assignment book). I expect that the daily assignments will be written in this book. Students also have weekly or long term assignments that are noted here. Your child may not have much homework to do at night. Many use their time well at school. However, these daily assignments (done or not) should go home to be checked for completeness and neatness. As time goes on the workload will increase. Nightly homework should take approximately 30-60 minutes for grade 5 students. Notice will be given in advance for tests, projects, activities, or needed materials and will be noted in the agenda. If possible, set a regular study time for your child. If there is no homework, have your child read in his/her AR book. Please take the time each evening to check your child’s agenda. This allows you to see what needs to be completed or rechecked. It also allows for daily communication for you and me.
REDO WORK: Students receive corrected homework weekly. Some work may need to be done over; it will be noted on the paper. The added practice is an advantage to the student. The grade will be adjusted accordingly when recorrected.
MISSING OR MAKEUP WORK: Any homework not turned in on time will result in one of the following: added to that night’s homework, lunch/recess time spent with me working on the work, or an academic. Following an absence, the student will be given a list of make up work and a time set for its completion.
BEHAVIOR: I expect each student to follow the school and classroom rules. I also expect each student to follow our core values which are respect, kindness, honesty and responsibility. In each class, we have discussed our behavior system along with the pros and the cons of it.
Students are given a warning. This allows them to correct their behavior. If they continue to disrupt the class, a check will be given. The student will spend lunchtime with me to discuss what happened and to fill out a reflection sheet to be taken home and signed by the parent. A second check in the same class period will result in removal from class and a detention.
If you have any questions, please email me ([email protected]) or call (825-3310 ext.349).
